Hot Long Term Companies To Buy Right Now

Two European studies came out this week, both with interesting implications. The first study came out of Denmark and noted that chronic lower back pain may be curable with an extended regimen of antibiotics.

Our second study may be even more important. In Germany, scientists studied 400 children and found that poor air quality is a contributor to Type 2 diabetes. It turns out that pollution creates a significant bump in insulin resistance, leading to diabetes.

Both of these studies will need larger trials to confirm the results. In this video, health-care analyst David Williamson discusses the potential impact for investors if both of these still-early results prove correct over time.

Another under-$10 stock that looks ready to trigger a big breakout trade is China Ming Yang Wind Power Group (MY), a wind turbine manufacturer in China. This stock has been very hot over the last six months, with shares up sharply by 52%.

If you take a look at the chart for China Ming Yang Wind Power Group, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending over the last few weeks, with shares moving higher from its low of $1.91 to its intraday high of $2.59 a share. During that uptrend, shares of MY have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed shares of MY within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Market players should now look for long-biased trades in MY if it manages to break out above some past overhead resistance levels at $2.58 to $2.80 a share high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above those levels with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action of 1.56 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then MY will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $3.35 to its 52-week high at $3.52 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give MY a chance to tag $4 a share.

Traders can look to buy MY off weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below its 50-day moving average of $2.30 a share, or near more support at $2.02 a share. Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Sean Williams]

Arena Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: ARNA  ) didn't have nearly as rough a go of things, but it certainly didn't have a good week, either. Following a first-quarter report that saw the company drastically miss the Street's revenue and profit estimates as it continues to wait for the final labeling of its chronic weight management drug, Belviq, from the Drug Enforcement Agency, Arena also announced it was pulling its EU marketing application for Belviq. The move isn't a complete shock given that VIVUS'Qsymia failed to gain approval in Europe as well because of safety concerns, but it certainly takes any chance of garnering any EU revenue off the table for both companies, at least in the interim.

  • [By Brian Orelli]

After getting rejected once, Arena Pharmaceuticals' (NASDAQ: ARNA  ) Belviq and VIVUS' (NASDAQ: VVUS  ) Qsymia were both approved by the FDA last year. And the FDA seems open to approving a third drug, Orexigen's (NASDAQ: OREX  ) Contrave.

  • [By Brian Orelli]

Observe the peaks in July 2012 after the FDA approved VIVUS' (NASDAQ: VVUS  ) and Arena Pharmaceuticals' (NASDAQ: ARNA  ) obesity drugs. VIVUS launched Qsymia a few months later to lackluster sales. Arena's Belviq was just launched earlier this month after waiting for the DEA to sign off on the drug's scheduling. While Arena sits a little lower than its post-approval high, it still has a ways to fall if the drug also fails to meet investors' expectations.

  • [By James Brumley]

Think Arena Pharmaceuticals (ARNA) and VIVUS (VVUS) used up all weight loss drug enthusiasm when the two companies won approval for Belviq and Qsymia, respectively, back in 2012?
